Reliance Hook and Ladder Co. #1 is part of the Upper Chichester Fire Department located 15 miles southeast of Philadelphia, PA. The department is made up of three volunteer fire companies - each station operating with its own budget. Reliance serves as the truck company for Upper Chichester Township, but is not limited to Truck Company Operations.

2 ALARM BUILDING FIRE IN HOOK

At approx. 0100 hrs Tower and Squrt 61 was dispatched to E. 9th street Marcus Hook along with 68 (Marcus hook Trainer), 39 (Lower Chi), 40 (Boothwyn), RIT 63 (Greenridge), and MEdic 100-7 for the building. 68-9 (J.McClure) along with Ladder 68 arrived on location with fire showing. Upon arrival of Tower 61 we were ordered to throw ground ladders and vent the roof. Because of the fire load a second alarm was struck bringing in Ladder 65 (Garden City), Engine 14 (Swarthmore), Engine 12 (Eddystone), and RIT45 (Parkside) as the second RIT. The crews from Reliance assisted with ventilation and interior attack on the fire before crews were evacuated. Squrt 61 was put in service in the rear as master stream activities were started bringing the fire under control. Great Job to all units on scene for great team work. Thanks to Rescue 47 and Tower 69 for covering our local and handling two car fires 20 feet from each other. Also thanks to John Frey and Sam Makey for the use of the pictures.


 
   
   
Vehicle Fire @ Walmart

Around 2130, Engine 61, 55 & Ambulance 40 were dispatched to Walmart on the Conchester for a reported van fire. Engine 55 arrived with the engine comparment well involved. 55 went in service with an 1 3/4" handline. Eng 61 arrived & assisted with extinguishment. Crews cleared within 20 minutes.


 
CPR Recerts

Tonight 15 members were recertified in CPR & AED training. The class was about 3 hours and was conducted by Crozer Paramedics. Thanks to Medics Mike Kokoszka, Bill McCall, and Josh Boylan. Also special thanks to Crozer LT Chuck Snyder for helping set up the class.


 
CO alarm @ Arrowhead Ct

@ 1145 the township companies were dispatched to Arrowhead Apts for a CO alarm. The Squrt hit the street not to long after dispatch. The Engine responded shortly after the Squrt. Rescue 40 arrived & started checking the building. The Squrt about a minute later. 40-9 Recalled the assignment after the investigation.


 
RELIANCE RECIEVES AFG GRANT

On May 21,2010 Reliance was rewarded the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant. Reliance received $115,385 which will purchase a Mobile Breathing Air compressor to fill air cylinders and also will go towards much need equipment updates for the apparatus and some new gear.  A special thank you goes to Art Gorga, Jerry Gaspero, and Walter Caber for putting hard work and a lot of hours into ensuring we keep our frontline safe.


 
Drill on aquired house

Tonight Members from Reliance along with Boothwyn 40, and Lower Chichester 39 took part in a drill that consisted of Roof Cuts, Proper Ladder Techniques, Breaching Walls, Checking for Extension, Ventilaton, and other topics. The drill was conducted @ an aquired house on Market St. We would like to thank Member and Owner of Kelly's Landscaping Dan Kelly for the use of the Building. Thanks to everyone who took part in the training. Also thanks to Boothwyn for the pictures.

 
   
   
Box Alarm with injuries on E. Colonial Dr.

@ 0326 the township box alarm was struck to 2439 E. Colonial Dr. reported to be a chimney. The township companies along with Truck 63 (Green Ridge) to replace the Tower because the Tower is O.O.S, Rescue 45 (Parkside) for the Rapid Intervention Team, & Medic 100-C. 

Numerous calls were reported of the structure fire and another call was reported with 1 subject down on the front lawn. Medic 100-C arrived and reported 2 subjects were still inside the building. Medics 66-7, 100-7, & 100 were added on the assignment.

40-1 arrived & went in service with an 1 3/4" handline. The Squrt arrived & dropped the 5" supply line to 40-1. Truck 63 arrived & started throwing ground ladders. UC-9 (J. Smith) arrived & had command. Interior crews had fire in the walls around the fire place with a heavy smoke condition throughout the building. 40's crew made a good quick knock on the fire. 

Units operated on scene for about 45 minutes. Good job to all units who operated on the fireground.


 
1 vehicle fully involved with exposure problems

@ 0405, Engine companies 61, 55, & Ambulance 40 were alerted to 950 Kingsman Rd for a reported vehicle fire. UC-9 (J. Smith) arrived with a 1 vehicle fully involved exposed on the D side of a single family dwelling. UC-9 added Engine company 40 to the assignment. Engine 61 arrived and placed a 1 3/4" handline in service. The fire was extinguished within minutes, the crews from 40 & 55 checked the interior of the house for extension. Units operated on scene for about 1 hour.
