Reliance Hook and Ladder Co. #1 is part of the Upper Chichester Fire Department located 15 miles southeast of Philadelphia, PA. The department is made up of three volunteer fire companies - each station operating with its own budget. Reliance serves as the truck company for Upper Chichester Township, but is not limited to Truck Company Operations.
Reliance covers a 6.8 square mile area, with a population of
16,842
(2000 census). Approximately 70% of the area is residental, 20% industrial,
and 10% commercial. Reliance also provides mutual aid to other local municpalities,
such as Aston, Bethel, and Lower Chichester Townships, as well as Marcus Hook
and Trainer Boroughs.
The company answers approximately 500 emergency calls per year, ranging from
building fires, to vehicle fires, and even providing community assistance such
as pump outs during bad weather. The 50 member company is supported by a wonderful
ladies auxilary that is always there to lend a hand when possible.
