Reliance Hook and Ladder Co. #1 is part of the Upper Chichester Fire Department located 15 miles southeast of Philadelphia, PA. The department is made up of three volunteer fire companies - each station operating with its own budget. Reliance serves as the truck company for Upper Chichester Township, but is not limited to Truck Company Operations.

On Friday November 14th, the Reliance Hook and Ladder fire company will be hosting the first ever comedy night in the Phoenix banquet hall. More info will be posted so keep looking for more updates.

@ 0800 a crew of 4 traveled in the Squrt south to cover New Castle County station 28 (Wilmington Manor) while they had a funeral. The crew covered from 0900 until 1500 and received no calls.

@ 1610 the Engine was alerted to Cherrytree Rd & Weir Rd for wires down reported to be on a Truck. Engine 61 arrived to find 1 wire on top of the truck at the middle of the intersection. Peco & fire police were notified. The Engine operated on scene for about 45 minutes.

@ 1925 the Tower was dispatched along with Engine 68 (MHTFD) & Rescue 39 (Lower Chi) to cover Station 81 (Chester FD). Chester was operating at a 2 Alarm box assignment @ 22nd & Potter.

While covering, the Chester City box alarm was struck to 548 Dorian Ct. The Tower along Engine 68, Rescue 39, Engine 12 (Eddystone), Engine 57 (Upland), Medic 81-7 & Chester 11 B were on the assignment. Fireboard advised there was smoke showing with possible entrapment. Medic 100 was then added to the assignment. M100 arrived first with light smoke showing. Engines 12, 57 & the Tower arrived and found burnt food which had extension in the walls. The crew from the Tower used the thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots & pulled ceiling with a pike pole. Chester 11 B (Capasso) held the assignment to 12 & 57. The Tower returned to station 81 to cover.

The Tower remained @ Sta. 81 until 0045. Thanks to Lower Chi 39 for the picture.

Around 1130, the Marcus Hook Box assignment was struck to the area of 10th & Plaza. Co. 68 (MHTFD), 61, 40 (Boothwyn) & 39 (Lower Chichester) were on the assignment.

68-9C went on location with heavy fire throughout 8 garages. Penn St Command was established and advised all units to go in service with heaviest water lines. The Tower & Ladder 68 put their aerials in service. Rescue 39 had water supply for the Tower & the Squrts crew was used for manpower.

Units operated on scene for about 3 hours. Good job to all units who operated on the fire ground.

Around 1345 the Engine was alerted along with Ladder 68 (MHTFD) to cover Sta. 63 (Green Ridge). Co. 63 was operating at a Box Alarm on Bancroft Rd. The covers were alerted to 600 Red Hill Rd @ the Assisi house for an alarm sounding. Eng 66 (Bethel) who was covering for 72 arrived first with nothing showing. Just prior to arriving 66 command recalled the assignment. The Engine returned to cover 63. Then about an hour later was released.

Tonight the members of Reliance were invited to train with Co. 63 (Green Ridge). The topic of the drill was pump operations. The drill consisted of pumping, driving, hydrants, hose lines & operating the Towers main. Even the members of Green Ridge got a chance to operate the Tower. A lot was learned from this drill and the 2 companies look forward to keep training together in the future. Thanks to the members of 63 for the invite.

While the drill was going on, Squrt 61 & Engine 55 were dispatched to 3360 Chichester Ave @ Willowbrook Condos for a dumpster fire. 55-9B (Chad Small) went on location with a pile of leaves on fire. Squrt 61 arrived & placed a PW extinguisher in service. The fire was contained right away & all units went available.

Around noon, Co. 61 & 55 were alerted to 3131 Meetinghouse Rd @ Meetinghouse Apartments S-8 to assist the police. 55-1 responded right away, and the assignment was recalled. PD then advised they had smoke showing from the apartment. The assignment was then upgraded to a box alarm. The township companies along with Rescue 45 (Parkside) for the Rapid Intervention Team were on the assignment.

55-1 arrived with smoke showing side A, 55-1 placed an 1 ¾” handline in service. The fire was quickly knocked and a primary search was conducted which found 1 subject DOA. Units operated on the fire ground for about 1 ½ hours.

@ 0235 (Chester Fire Department) was dispatched to 2nd & Reany for a box alarm. C/11 arrived with a 2 story twin with heavy fire throughout the vacant with fire in the exposure. C/11 struck the 2nd alarm bringing in the Tower, Rescue 45 (Parkside) for the Rapid Intervention Team, 52-6 (Brookhaven) & Canteen 47 (Chester Township).

Chester units went into defensive operations. The Tower arrived and remained in manpower. The fire was soon placed under control. The crew from the Tower assisted putting the city units back in service. The Tower operated on scene for about 2 hours.

Today 5 members traveled to Sta. 14 (Swarthmore) to cover while they prepared for the funeral services for their Chief that had just passed away. The Tower covered along with Rescue 39 (Lower Chichester) from 0700-1300 while recieving no calls and then being relieved.

The officers & members would like to extend our condolences to the family of Chris Hansen & the Swarthmore fire company.

The Chester Township box alarm was struck to 2119 Felton St. Along with Co. 47 & the Tower were 68, 63, 39, 52, 57 & Rescue 72 for the Rapid Intervention Team. Engine 47 & Tower 61 went on location with a 1 ½ story residential and had heavy fire throughout. First arriving units went in service with heaviest water lines. Units operated on scene for about 3 hours despite the blistering heat from this weeks heat wave.
Special thanks to Ladder 48 (Tinicum) & NCC Engine 22 (Minqudale) for covering. No calls were logged for the covers.
The night also finished off with 1 wires call after this quick thunderstorm we had.

Engines 61, 55 & Ambulance 40 were alerted to Market St. by the McDonald’s restaurant for a reported Septa bus fire. Engine 61 arrived with a School bus that had fire in the wheel well. The Engine put an 1 ¾” hand-line in service & extinguished. The fire was placed under control in 10 minutes.

Later Engines 61 & 55 were alerted to 3360 Chichester Ave @ Willowbrook Condos for a trash fire. 61-12 (J. Bannon) arrived with a mattress & dumpster fence involved. Engine 61 arrived & placed an 1 ¾” hand-line in service. The fire was knocked down quickly. UCC-1 was notified. Engine 61 remained on location until the fire marshal arrived.
